Like many people over the last few years, I became a fan of Formula 1 auto racing. The key to my appreciation for the sport came from learning about the storylines behind the scenes, as the cars themselves were only as interesting as the people who built and drove them.
That being said, when an opportunity arose to attend an IndyCar race, despite my having no actual understanding of any of the characters or teams involved, I jumped at the chance because of the similarities of the cars to those in F1; to my surprise, my appreciation for the mechanical marvels had grown alongside my fandom for the sport, and I wanted to see what they were capable of with my own two eyes.
It’s difficult to put into words the type of power that emanated from these machines, so I’ll let the video I recorded do all the talking.

Looking back on it, it’s truly amazing I was allowed to stand as close as I did to capture this moment. I surprised myself with my own reaction to the experience, which included lots of laughing due to the absurdity of the speed.
It must be seen to be believed.
